One new thing about being in school is the designated half-term breaks. One nice thing about the private school the girls go to is that they aren’t out the same week as the public schools. So, we took the chance with some other friends who were out of school to go to a local amusement park.
Chessington Park
With the rainy, cold weather mixed with only a few schools out for the week, the kids had a blast riding rides over and over again without the long queues.

The Gang
We were so grateful the Dudley’s asked us to accompany them and another friend, because this trip became one of the highlights of our half-term. It almost made up for Chris being in New York City the whole week the kids were out of school . . . almost.

Girls on the Overhead Train
It was nice to be with a group to have more options. The older kids were great sports about doing some of the slower rides at first.

Girls Riding the Carousel
But, it was also great when they were able to break away with other brave adults to do the scarier, faster rides.

Pirate Ship

The Vampire
At mid-day we were able to take a break and go to the Madagascar Live performance. They did a great job. Too bad our kids were too shy to dance in public . . .

Quiet Observers
Pumpkin Patch
Our other big event for the week was going to the pumpkin patch. We went to the same one we went to last year, but seemed to freeze a lot more. The weather has started out colder faster this year!

Pick Your Pumpkin
Emma chose her pumpkin right away – she definitely has learned how to make decisions quickly!

Emma’s Pumpkin
The others took more time and care picking out their pumpkins. For some reasons, there’s all towered over the one Emma chose.

Caleb’s Pumpkin
Even with the cold temperatures, it was fun to go out and carry on our traditions . . . especially when we were the only ones in the pumpkin patch!

The Picks of the Patch
A couple days later, we started in on carving our pumpkins. Emma’s finished product took her about as long as it did to pick her pumpkin from the patch.

Emma’s Masterpiece
The others took longer on their masterpieces. I only had to finish up Cami’s, but Hannah and Caleb did everything on their own.

Hannah’s Prep Work
They were quite pleased with their results . . and had a number of compliments days afterward, as they sat on the front porch.
