We found it quite difficult to find a pumpkin patch this year. We debated about going the easy way and just buying some at the grocery store, but what kind of a memory is that?!
I finally located a pumpkin patch not too far from us – about an hour away. So, we planned a day and went. We were surprised to find that the ‘patch’ was basically an area near a garden center where pre-picked pumpkins were sitting on the ground, organized by size and price. There were a few activity areas for the kids out of school that week to carve their pumpkins, participate in a little scavenger hunt, bob for apples (ew!), or ride a zip-line. My kids just opted for the zip-line.

After a couple turns each, we were ready to pick our pumpkins from the bunch.

Our short time there became more worthwhile when we discovered a corner of their farm store was set aside as the ‘American shop.’

Their prices were very reasonable so we stocked up on a few things. The highlight was definitely the jar of kosher dill pickles we picked up. A pickle has never tasted so good!
When we returned home, it was time to carve!

Hannah was the only one who got into it this year. Everyone else decided to paint theirs with watercolors or spray paint. So, Hannah and I set to work.

They looked pretty good when we were done . . .

and got a number of compliments from all our trick-or-treaters.

Halloween is a fairly new holiday here in Britain so this spider was seen as an amazing feat, although all I did was use a stencil. We’ll see how many of our neighbors attempt this little guy next year!
