We took the opportunity to steal back to Ithaca, NY for the weekend. Actually, it all started because Chris needed to go to Cornell for a conference for work . . . he realized it coincided with the infamous Ithaca Book Sale so we all planned to go . . . Chris’s boss told him he didn’t need to go to the conference . . . but we decided to take the time off of work anyway and GO!! It was just what we needed – time away from the normal rush of life.
We had a great drive out there, with only a little car sickness on Emma’s part (we are always prepared for her to have a bowl and extra clothes). After checking into our hotel, we went to Old Navy to find some great deals. Really, Ithaca’s Old Navy always has the best finds – I don’t know why, but they do! So, we all got our annual flip flops and some new shirts.
Then we went back to the hotel and directly to the pool. We couldn’t hold the kids back any longer. They had a blast! A trip would be worth it to them as long as there was TV and a pool! We could stay in a hotel a block from our home and they’d be happy as long as they had those two things.

To end the day, we went to one of our favorite Chinese buffet restaurants. It was great to notice the slower pace of life . . . and the sense of community. As Chris and I were helping the kids choose their food from the buffet line, an older man approached Chris and asked him if he had a coupon for dinner. When Chris told him no, the man gave Chris his. Chris tried to give it back to the man for him to use but the man insisted. It was so sweet.
The bad news to the day was that Emma continued not to feel well after her car sickness. She spent the entire dinner with her head on the table.
