Vacation at Home

While Chris and I were having a relaxing time in Ireland, the kids were at home with Grandma and Grandpa, having a vacation of their own. We did leave them a list of our normal schedule, suggestions for during the day, and scheduled lessons and activities the kids had for the week. But, as we were preparing to leave, Mom and Dad asked if they had our permission to spoil the kids. Wow! We’ve never been asked that before. That is one thing grandparents are for, right?! So, of course, we gave our permission . . . with a warning. Too much candy or sweets brings consequences with our little ones.

All our phone calls home were brief but all we heard was things were going well and they were staying busy and everything was ‘fine.’ We never got any details so we were wondering what their days were really like. When we got home, we found out everyone HAD been busy. Grandpa had been hard at work being ‘Mr. Fix-it’ doing all sorts of little projects – our garage door had all its panels in it, the garage had been cleaned out and organized (this included cleaning up all the previous kitchen floor that we had just laid in the middle of the garage floor), the hall closet door closed, the kids’ sink faucet worked, and on and on. I’m still noticing little things that were done and I am SO appreciative!! That was a great surprise.

We also heard all the fun things the kids did during the week – going on bike rides in the park, having a picnic under the grape arbor, and going on a field trip to the Red Mill. We were wondering about the last one when Chris’s mom called us quickly one day to see if our EZ Pass worked. Chris was going crazy wondering where they could have been driving that they would pay tolls. So, we’re glad it worked and they had a fun time. Emma gave us a great history lesson on the Red Mill so Chris and I felt we didn’t miss anything.

We know how much fun the kids had as we are still being called ‘Grandma’ and ‘Grandpa’ – hopefully we’ll be ‘Mom’ and ‘Dad’ soon – I feel like I’ve aged 20 years in the last week! Thank you Mom and Dad – it was a great treat for everyone!!

What a neat “vacation” for the kids!!!! I’m glad everyone had a great time!! What a blessing that Grandpa & Grandma like giving your kids a “vacation” while you were able to enjoy alone time together.

It is always such a relief to hear that the kids survived without mom and dad around. It looks like they had a great time!
