Upgrading for Posterity

Our dining table has always been something very important to our family.  It’s where we hang out after dinner and just talk about politics or current events or dogs . . . you name it.  It’s where we unwind together after a long day.  It’s where we can just be ourselves and not be judged.  For that reason, the dining table has been one of the most important pieces of furniture we have owned.  As our family grew we began to max out our table.  Then when we had company, we had to have a kids’ table, which, in reality, isn’t too fun for either the adults or kids.  So, we started researching tables.

Chris came across a carpenter here in England that takes custom orders, so we ordered a table that could fit 12 people, along with chairs.  It took the carpenter about 3 months to complete the project, as he sent many ‘in progress’ photos.  Then the day finally came when the table would be delivered.  We were so excited!

Admiring the Work

The heavy table top was quite a feat to get in the door and maneuvered with two guys, but they did it.

Putting Table Together

My favorite part of the whole table is the plaque that the carpenter put on.  He did ask if we wanted anything inscribed.  We decided on our name and then ‘No Empty Chairs’, which is a quote from President Ezra Taft Benson, as he talked about eternal families.

We love that the table will be with us for a long time and be able to fit guests and in-laws, as they come along.
