Unlike the trip out to Illinois, we didn’t have time to extend our drive too much on the way back. We left Friday afternoon and stayed the night in Cincinnati, OH. Yes, for all you geography experts, we took a little detour south. But, we had a good reason! We had a breakfast date with Chris’s cousin, Scott, and his new wife, Nicole! Add on a bonus of seeing Scott’s sister, Rebekah . . and we weren’t going to miss it! We won’t even count how many years it’s been since we’ve seen either of them. It was so wonderful!!

Our breakfast date almost felt like a party as Scott and Nicole had a few friends visiting them for Thanksgiving from D.C. We had a blast and even made some connections with mutual friends – what a small world it seems sometimes!
Reluctantly we piled in the car and drove all day Saturday, staying somewhere in Pennsylvania that night. The good news about the rest of the trip home – we didn’t hit any traffic in PA at all (a first for us)! The bad news – the trip home is definitely the longest part of a journey . . . knowing what’s up ahead and sad to leave what is behind.
But we made it home safe and sound on Sunday afternoon and quickly got resettled. Emma snuggled up with a book she found in one of our boxes we brought home, Caleb and Hannah reconnected with their toys, and Cami ran around the house with a permanent smile on her face to see things that were familiar to her. We are glad to be home and look back on our trip with lots of great memories!
