‘Sweet 16’ x 2

I have now entered back into an ‘even’ age – is it only me that finds comfort in that?!

Chris surprised me by getting a babysitter Friday night.  We tried out a ‘new to us’ restaurant that has very authentic TexMex food.  Their chips were the best I’ve ever had – we filled up on those before the food came.  The food was a touch on the spicy side because of the amount of sauce on everything, but that was easily washed down with our virgin strawberry daquiris.  A great dinner for two!

We then took in this movie:

I was hoping for a good Romantic Comedy but was left disappointed.  I could have waited to see it when it came out on Netflix or not at all.

It had also been awhile since we’d been to a late-night movie and Chris and I were just in shock at what goes on late at night at movie theaters.  Let’s just say, our children will NEVER go to a movie theater past 7:00 p.m. and only when either Chris or I are with them.  Those kids needed a “For the Strength of Youth” pamphlet and a parent chaperon!

On Saturday, my actual birthday, we had a nice quiet day at home.  We celebrated with cheesecake and gifts after lunch.  I felt very spoiled.

I was most touched by the gifts the kids decided to give me on their own.  Chris had gotten them something to give me but they each wanted to give me something special.  So, in the morning they each went to their own little corner and worked on their projects.  Hannah drew me a beautiful picture of the two of us.  Caleb gave me a card and $0.52.  Emma handed me a wrapped box with this note attached,

Dear Mom,

Happy birthday!  My present is chore cards.  They are things that you give me and I do it.  Once you give it and I do it, it is gone – like coupons.  Happy birthday!

Love,

Emma

You may be wondering what these chore cards are – they really had me smiling!  Here is a sampling:  ‘one clean living room’, ‘one dusted family room’, ‘one good as I can grades’, ‘one meal’, ‘one leave you alone for as long as you like’, and ‘chore of your choice’.  She was quite creative and very genuine.  I can’t wait to use them!

I finished off the day by taking Caleb and Cami to our Branch Pasta Potluck where surprisingly many people knew it was my birthday.  That really did my spirits good!  And where was the rest of our family?  Chris had taken the older girls out on a special date – more on that next post!
