Last year when we decided to put in applications for Emma and Hannah to go to a local international school, it happened so quickly. Within one week of making the decision to apply, they were there! As we’ve been thinking of putting Caleb and Cami in the same school, we wanted to feel more in control of the timing and what to expect so we asked for a trial day (AKA “shadow day”).

There were a lot of jitters, but overall, smiles and excitement! We had a few hiccups – Cami was put into 4th grade and Caleb in 6th, when it should have been 2nd and 7th. Those issues were quickly ironed out and the kids were able to have a buddy to ‘shadow’ throughout the day to experience what a true school day felt like.
When I picked up the kids later in the day, Cami’s first comment to me was “Can I come back tomorrow?!” Needless to say she had a great day and is dying to go back! She had me get up the following morning and fill in an application right away. It seems like we may be shooting to put Cami in for January instead of August.
Caleb’s first comment was “The girls were nice.” Not the first thing I was expecting to hear, but, for someone who dislikes change, at least it was positive. Still no decisions on what we’re doing with Caleb – home or school – but having had a trial day, we definitely have more knowledge to make the decision with.
