We are officially back to reality as the holiday is over and Chris is back to his long hours in the city. Add on starting up school with the kids again and my week flew by but dragging along a tired mother in the process. I really forgot in one month off how wearing ‘life’ can be at its fullest. BUT, I have found the “ME” time I have been looking for for so long!
As part of my New Years goals I have decided to really concentrate on a goal that has been on my list for umpteen years – have an exercise program 3 times a week. I have had a great desire to get back to running but couldn’t figure out how to work this with not having a jogging stroller, not wanting to run outside by myself when it’s dark, not wanting to bring 3 kids on bikes and a baby in a non-jogging stroller along . . . I found tons of reasons this just wouldn’t work. Then we found a treadmill on Freecycle last year. Chris was great at getting up in the morning and running until he started traveling and just couldn’t do it. SO, it’s my turn in the mornings now!
I get up at 5:30 a.m. and have one hour until Chris leaves that I can be in the basement running by myself. Of course, it never fails that the kids decide to get up before I’m done, but Chris keeps them at bay until he has to leave. I have found this so rejuvenating as I have time to think with no interruptions. I have felt more sane than I have in a long time 🙂
However, I have learned that I really am older than I think I am. My body just doesn’t work the same as when I was in high school and running. The one thing that was sore as I started into my new routine? – my legs? Nope. My back? Nope. My knees? Nope. My HIPS! I couldn’t believe it. Must be having 4 lil’ ones that did that!
So, instead of running at the park on Saturday as I had planned, I did some YOGA to work on toning my legs – this cured my hips entirely. So I’m looking forward to running on our ol’ treadmill again tomorrow morning!
GOOD for you!!!! You always did love running. I’ve been using Mom’s and I felt like I did after the first day of track practice, not a great thing!!! But I feel so much better about myself. So, I’m glad you are able to have that time to your self, I admire you for the dedication of getting up at 5:30, not very many people would do that!!! Love you.
keep it up!!!!
Don’t you just love yoga? I know I do!
That is great Becca! I just went to the gym today for the first time in a VERY long time. I ran on the treadmill for only 30 min (I only had a shot amount of time to get it in). I felt great, but I can definitely tell, my leg muscles are not used to that kind of exercise. And I thought having two sets of stairs, running up and down those all day was a workout. 😉
Way to go!! I just started running again recently as well and have been shocked and very pleased at my increased sanity (most of the time). =)
Way to go! I just started running again too, right after Christmas. I am loving the way it makes me feel – mentally and physically.
