Pencil Drive

pencil.jpg

I talked to my sister, Helen, today – has been awhile so it was so nice! She told me of a cool project she and her kids are doing and I wanted to let everyone know so if you are interested in doing this with your kids, you can get involved! It’s so easy but makes a world of difference for other little kids!

Helen’s husband, Russell, is serving in Iraq with the US Army. I’m sure you’ve seen pictures of these great military men and women surrounded by Iraqi children with smiles all around. These little children are so sweet and don’t have much but the military men and women always give what they have. Russell didn’t have much with him on one occasion but gave a little child a Starburst from his pocket and the child was overjoyed! But, what do these children really want? Russell said all they want are pencils. PENCILS!! Those little things we take for granted. So, Helen and her boys are starting a pencil drive to send these to Russell so they can hand these out to the children. Along with that, they are also collecting those little pencil sharpeners so they can actually write with them!

If you would like to get involved and want to know where to send them, leave a comment and I will e-mail you her address where they will be collecting these for the next two weeks. So, start collecting pencils!!!

Send me her address. I think we had a bunch of pencil sharpeners left over from the YW humanitarian kits we did last month. I’ll have to see how many Suzen has, but I’d be happy to send them!

I’d love to send some pencils. By the way, I’m a friend of Allison Smith, just so you don’t think some crazy person is on your website. I homeschool in the DC area, so she told me about your website.
