On our drive to church on Sunday in the rain, Chris commented how everyone was so worried about the weather. He joked they couldn’t handle a little bit of rain. Well, we found out our house couldn’t handle it either, although it wasn’t a little bit of rain – it was A LOT!! The constant downpour all day caused major flash floods all over the place. Around dinner time the kids discovered our basement was flooded. Chris tried to use a bucket to get a lot of the water out but to no avail. The water kept getting higher. By the time we got all the toys out of the basement, the food storage up on benches, and the deep freeze up on crates, we had about 6 inches of water throughout. So, no heat and no hot water! We couldn’t get someone to pump out the water until late so we opted for a hotel last night. When we came home this morning, the standing water was gone. We were able to turn the furnace back on and were thankful the water hadn’t gotten into the motor. So, now we’re on the job to get it all dried out – sounds like fun, right?!

The adventure in all this is that the kids enjoyed being at the hotel. The thought that they could just turn the TV on and see a show! Of course, the hotel we stayed at was under some renovations so there were limited channels and most of them didn’t come in very clearly. Thankfully, they didn’t mind watching the Homerun Derby on ESPN. They didn’t even complain when the only food at the ‘continental breakfast’ were red apples like they serve in the school lunch line! Emma opted to wait until we got home and had a piece of toast.

Oh my goodness! How awful. Im glad the water went down on it’s own!!!
Oh You guys! How awful! WE had water come in to our basement too, but not like this. Fortunately, we don’t have anything down there but the washer and dryer.
that sucks so much… but glad you guys are ok and it was just a few inches. Some people have it bad…. and as much as a few inches in the basement is a pain, its not too bad. I was amazed at all the broken trees in Ithaca after the storm, it looks a mess….
