I attended a New York Met’s game last year and had a great experience, but have had no desire to go back. It may be true that I am not a huge baseball fan in general, but I do like the games on occasion. However, yesterday Caleb and I attended a Yankee’s game and I think it was enough to make me go back for more. It was my first Yankee’s game and Caleb’s first professional baseball game. I was worried that he would lose interest after a few innings (I have heard some people claim that baseball is a boring sport to watch), but he showed surprising interest and endurance.

I think it may have been the whole experience that made such an impression, since there is no one single thing that stands out. We rode the subway to the game filled with blue and white-clad fans talking about the great season and what might happen at this game. When the subway doors opened the fans moved together toward the entrance chanting in unison, “Let’s go Yankee’s, Let’s Go!” The sounds echoed through the tunnel as people slapped the walls and even drew Caleb and I in. When we walked up to the stadium I thought of the history that had occurred there and was reminded even more when Caleb asked whether we would see Babe Ruth. He was right about the player, but his timing was a bit off.
To top it all off, the Yankees beat Detroit and we were able to see some good hits, plays, and records. We both had a wonderful experience; not just because of the game, but because we were able to spend it together.
That sounds like great fun. A Yankee’s game is major memory material! What a great Father and Son activity.
The Yankees?! Of all teams, the Yankees?!
well, I’m glad you had a good time, but really—the Yankees?
