New Goal

I was reading through an article my mother-in-law gave to us entitled “Your Refined Heavenly Home” by Douglas L. Callister.   The main theme was how we shouldn’t lose sight of good books and uplifting music.  I definitely agree.  I love to read a good book, although I find I have a hard time finding the time to do it.  I love listening to uplifting music as well, but don’t always remember to turn it on when we are at home.  On the whole, I was viewing myself being in a promising position with the article.  Then he stated:

“Can 85 channels and uncountable DVDs ever fill our insatiable appetite to be entertained?”  Hmm.  We don’t have cable – not a problem, but I do love my movie nights at home with Chris.

“Do any unwisely become addicted to computer games or Internet surfing, therby missing the richer experiences of great reading, conversations, and music enjoyment?”  Okay, you got me there.  I am addicted to the computer!!!  I love reading everyone’s blogs and looking at different websites . . .and checking my e-mail.  I am truly an addict.  Perhaps this is why I find so little time to sit down and enjoy a good book.  So, I am making a goal to restrict myself from the computer – I will get on it no more than 3 times a day – morning, noon, and evening.  Sounds good.  Because I have shared this goal, it will be easier to keep.

One last thought from wise Bro. Callister – “I don’t know whether our heavenly home has a television set or a DVD machine, but in my mind’s imagery it surely has a grand piano and a magnificent library.”  So go snuggle up with a good book and listen to some uplifting music!!

Bro. Callister was in my ward growing up! His wife taught my seminary class my senior year. He truly is a wise man. Good goal! I’m an addict too, I admit it! Maybe I’ll have to come up with a similar goal. Great job!

I’m glad to know I’m not the only addict. 🙂 I try to limit to 3 times a day too. Good luck!
