Middle School with Hannah
This year was my first year in a real school. I had been homeschooling before this and I was really nervous to try an actual school. I had a hard time getting used to all of the homework and assessments, but after a while I was able to do it well. The subject that I struggled with the most was Humanities. I had a really hard time with the work that we were given. It just didn’t come very easily to me. The other subjects, however, I thought were easier and I felt I did a lot better in them then I did in Humanities.
I felt that my best subjects were Math and English. I always thought that I was terrible at writing, but my teacher was really good. He explained the outline and the way to write it really well. He was by far my favorite teacher. Math was my second favorite and the teacher was pretty cool. Like my English teacher, he explained stuff to me that maybe I didn’t understand before and made it come easy to me now.
Science and Design weren’t my best subjects, but I wasn’t terrible at them. Every month we would have an assembly with the whole middle school and near the end of the year they started handing out awards.

8th Grade Awards
I received the Principled Award and my English teacher was going to present it. Unfortunately, I was home sick, but, luckily, mom was there and picked it up for me.
We went on a lot of field trips, but my favorite was Outward Bound. We did a lot of teamwork exercises, went hiking then camped, built rafts, and jumped off of jetties. The last one was the most challenging for me because I don’t like water very much. I still did it, but after saying I wouldn’t. My leader or counselor that worked for Outward Bound was very encouraging and I’m glad that I had him.

Last Day of 8th Grade
At the end of the year, we had an 8th grade promotion. Since we were going into high school, we were basically graduating from middle school.

Sitting During the Ceremony
On the day of the promotion, the teachers made us practice walking up, sitting down and walking out over and over again. It started to get really boring.

Congratulations from Ms. LaPine, Head of School
During the actual promotion, there were 3 students who were chosen to give a speech. Then the principal and the vice-principal both gave a short speech.

Final Applause
After the speeches, we walked down and received our graduation certificate from the principal and head of school. When we took that certificate we were no longer in middle school.

Red Room Reception
We had a reception afterward that Mom had helped with.

Reception Cake

Reception Spilling onto School Lawn
It was really fun and festive, but I really liked being on the pitch with the other boys playing football.

I can’t wait to start high school! Even though I am a little nervous, I know that everything will be fine.
