Mid-Thirties Here I Come

It’s official, I am no longer a ‘young thirty’.  My kids were kind enough to tell me that I am half way to seventy.  I guess no matter how you look at it, I’m getting older.

My birthday evening was full of kids’ activities so we decided to celebrate the Saturday before my birthday.  We had big plans to go out to dinner and enjoy the evening, but as Chris and I got up that morning we were both feeling rather flu-ish and voted for staying at home.  We made our family favorite kabobs and opened gifts.

The kids were excited to have me open their gifts.  Emma got me a cookbook (that she has been enjoying), the younger girls got me a small kitchen chopper, and Caleb got me the first season of Downton Abbey.

Chris really threw me for a loop when he surprised me with a trip to Iceland for the two of us.

Surprise!

Yes, I cried.  The only other time I’ve cried when he’s given me a gift was when he bought me our piano.

I’m so excited as Iceland has been on the top of my list for awhile now.  We’ll be there just in time to see the Northern Lights and do some other fun things.  So stay tuned for trip details!

We finished off the night with some cheesecake and blowing out candles.

(Be kind – remember I was sick, which means no make-up and hair back in a ponytail)

On my actual birthday, my friend surprised me with roses!  It meant so much to me because I didn’t even know she knew it was my birthday and it was the only thing that happened out of the ordinary on my actual birthday!

This is going to be a good year . . I just know it!

We’re still in our young thirties. We’re right at the top of the bump. Now NEXT year we might have to say we’re in the older thirties. 😉 Still so weird to me. I remember when my parents were in their thirties. My mom was only 40 when I graduated! How did we get to this point anyway? But what a FUN way to celebrate 35! I loved looking at all your pictures of Iceland. What a trip! Happy belated birthday to you!
