Memorable Weekend

Amidst Cami’s A&E visit and Caleb’s gymnastics competition, we had a much different side of our weekend as well . . . a more spiritual one.  I was able to go with our ward’s youth down to the London Temple to do baptisms for the dead.  Because it’s a bit of a jaunt to get down there from London (as it’s not REALLY in London) and we had to be there at 7:30 a.m., we decided to go down Friday night and stay in the temple accommodations.  We had a great time and I loved being there with our youth.  They are such great teenagers!!

Outside the Temple at 7:30 a.m.

Our ward had the great idea a few months ago to make this a ward temple trip, since the youth would already be down there.  So on Saturday over a hundred people from our ward met us down at the temple – adults and children.  We had a great devotional together, which was in part a farewell to our bishop and his wife, who were moving to Japan.  After a great lunch, the youth left for home and left the rest of the ward to do their own activities at the temple.

Upon returning home, I received a message from Chris to meet him at the church for an appointment.  We were a little prepared for this (those tender mercies of the Lord) but I don’t think there is anything that can prepare you for the weight or emotions that go with being extended the calling of bishop.  Chris was sustained on Sunday with his two counselors.  It was an emotional and spiritual day.  One we will always remember . . as it was one that Chris actually cried at the pulpit!  We are looking forward to staying in London as long as the Lord wants us here and serving in our ward.  We are so thankful for His hand in all things!

Wow! That is really neat. A friend of mine for our days in New Orleans, just had her husband sustained as Bishop in their ward recently. I am sure Chris will do a great job and you will be a great Bishop’s wife! 🙂

Wow, that’s a big calling! And of course Chris will be great at it. What an adventure London is turning out to be for your family!

And hey, if you’re there longer, I might actually make it to visit someday! 🙂

Well, I know a little bit about what it’s like to have that calling extended to your husband…although it is definitely a family calling! And I know what you mean about those tender mercies that prepare you. We’re approaching 2 years with Peter as the bishop and although it’s been difficult in some ways, I would never trade our experiences and the character building we’ve all gone through for a less demanding calling. 🙂
