Leslie has “tagged” me to list 7 random things about myself . . . then I get to tag 7 others. Test yourself to see if you know any of these:
1. I have an aversion to seafood, although as time goes by I have realized that I have been misguided. My dad used to bring home live lobsters when he came back from some TDYs and we all enjoyed them. But when we went to visit my grandparents we ALWAYS had his fresh catch, which was catfish. I couldn’t stand the little bones in the fish. I think this is where it all stems from, aside from the fact of never really having it while growing up. The more seafood I now force myself to have, I like it. Although, I do not think I will EVER like shrimp. I can’t stand the smell or the look of those things!

2. I’ve never been a big fan of jelly beans, especially the black jelly beans we always found in our Easter baskets. But, my favorite candy of all time is a jelly bean – SweetTart Jelly Beans that you can only find at Easter time. I stock up! I love a candy that ‘bites back’!

3. I sucked my thumb until I was 7 and only stopped after my parents said I could get my ears pierced if I stopped. This was only after they put the gross cream on my thumb, bound my hand, and whatever else you do to keep your children’s hands out of their mouths. It still took a couple attempts with the ear piercing motivation. It was such a hard habit to break! This is at the age where it was still cute:

4. My entire extended family doesn’t call me Becca, which has been my nickname solely from the 4th grade when I had to reveal my ‘private’ nickname from home because there were 3 ‘Rebecca’s’ in my class. Anyway, my family all calls me ‘Rebecca’ but with the first ‘e’ being a long vowel sound like the ‘e’ in ‘rewind’ or ‘redo’ or ‘restate’. It always bothered me a little bit but if they didn’t say it like that I think I would miss it now.
5. I am scared of water. This is a very new realization for me. I swam on the swim team in middle school and always seemed to go a little faster in the deep end. Now I know why – I was scared! Not that I would drown but that something was there to get me. That is why I am not too keen on swimming in oceans, lakes, or rivers, where you cannot see what is underneath!
6. I have had glasses since 6th grade. Of course, my frames keep getting smaller and smaller – gotta love the styles!

7. More on the sentimental side, one of my best-est friends who has always been there through late night talks, little squabbles, and military moves is my younger sister, Helen. Being 2 years apart was great for us – instant playmates and friends. This is one of my favorite pictures of us taken at Loring Air Force Base in Maine:
