Israel, Part 4

Day 4

– Dome of the Rock

We started our 4th day at the Dome of the Rock, where we saw the Muslim side of the Temple Mount.

It is strictly forbidden for men and women to touch in any way on the Temple Mount.

On the back side of the Temple Mount, there is a Muslim school!  The older boys were out playing volleyball and football (soccer) . . .

The girls must have their classes on an opposite side.

We then headed to the Israel Museum where we got an overview of what Jerusalem used to look like.

When we went through the Israel Museum, we saw the oldest scripture found – Number 6:24-26, which is engraved on a thin silver plate.  We were also able to see some of the Dead Sea Scrolls (contained in their own separate building).

– Upper Room

The rest of our day was especially neat because we started going through the Savior’s last day.  We started at King David’s tomb, which is near the place the Last Supper was held.

We went into a room that may have been similar to the Upper Room and discussed what went on during the Last Supper.

– Garden of Gethsemane

Our final spot for the day was the Garden of Gethsemane.  Our tour guide, Steven, took us to a garden above where most tourists go.  So, we were able to have a nice, quiet, reflective time talking about the significance of Gethsemane.

As the sun started to set, we had the perfect view, being above the city.

The garden was very well kept and maintained.  You could see where the garden property ended and private property started, as the litter was horrible on that side of the wall.  It was quite sad.

As we were dropped off at our hotel for our nightly dinner, we all decided we were sick of the tourist pre-paid buffet dinners.  We found a mall underneath the hotel and split some pizzas.  Then we even treated ourselves to ice creams and had a great evening socializing.
