I wasn’t going to do it, but after climbing the stairs to the top of the castle I relented – but only just a small peck. We can now say that we have kissed the Blarney Stone and added our saliva to the thousands who slobbered before us. It is said that those who kiss the Stone are given the “Gift of Gab;†I just hope it doesn’t end up being the “Gift of Unknown Disease.†After it all, we had a great adventure – especially the castle itself. So far we have seen a number of restored castles, but this one has not been remodeled and sits in its decrepit state, bringing more authenticity and mystery to the experience.

Among other things, this morning we balanced our castle visit with a morning visit of a cathedral – the Rock of Cashel. This too is in its decrepit state and made the experience magnificent. There were some tourists wandering around, but nothing like I imagine it could be during the busy season. We have been blessed to have few tourists around and wonderful weather for the two days so far. Cashel sits at the top of a rocky hill that overlooks the valley. You can see in the pictures the lush green fields and sheep dotting the surface. Becca and I spent some time resting at the hill to peacefully overlook the magnificent valley that represents so much of what we have seen all around the country.

Hanging upside down to kiss the Blarney Stone! What an adventure. 🙂
