I was so anxious to vote today – I didn’t want to put it off and then run out of time at the end of the day when the lines were at their longest. So, as soon as the kids and I were ready and had breakfast, we walked to our polling location. I was expecting a huge line but was happy to find that we had gotten there when the line had slimmed down, but when we left, it had started to wrap around the room again. Perfect timing!
I don’t like to talk politics because I don’t want to offend others with my personal viewpoints or feel that others need to get defensive. I also don’t want others to judge me for who I vote for. It’s a private matter.
That being said, as I was waiting in line to sign my name to the voters’ sheet, I actually started to get emotional. I looked around me and realized how many of these people had emigrated here from another country and how special the opportunity for them to vote in this free country is. I realized how grateful I am to live in the United States of America and have the opportunity and blessing to vote for our leaders. I was grateful to be there with my children so they can see democracy in action; looking forward to the day when they are old enough to take part in this right.
Have you voted today? Don’t take this right for granted!
