Yesterday Hannah turned 5 years old. She has known it’s been coming but isn’t to the point of counting down days yet. She just knew it was before Christmas. So when I told her on Thursday that her birthday was in two more days, her jaw dropped and she was so excited!
We had her plan whatever she wanted to do and tried not to let Caleb influence her decision. She finally decided she wanted to go bowling. [mygal=bowling_alley] We had a great time as a family – and Hannah even got the first strike (don’t look too closely at our lousy scores)! [mygal=scoreboard] While we were there, it worked out that we could order what she had wanted to have for her birthday meal – PIZZA! [mygal=hannah_pizza]
Back home Hannah opened her gifts. Since she has reached that magical age of 5 we gave her a watch. She is so excited and lets us know what time it is as soon as a new hour starts. Caleb really wanted to make her something but decided the night before when there wasn’t any time to plan it out. So, he ran errands with Chris Saturday morning and came back with a gift for her that he pulled out of the trunk to surprise her. I think Caleb was more excited to give it to her than she was to get it – I love it when that happens!

Hannah requested a cake with pink frosting and sprinkles (my kids have been so nice to me with birthday cakes lately!). We happened to have some trick candles that keep relighting when they are blown out. She tried and tried to get them to stay out before recruiting Emma and Caleb’s help. They had a lot of smoke going but they kept relighting.

We finished off the day by attending our Branch Christmas party. One of our kids spread the word that it was Hannah’s birthday so when she visited Santa he gave her an extra treat and had everyone sing her ‘Happy Birthday.’

We’re so blessed to have Hannah in our family. She rounds all the kids out as a group. She is always quick to smile and is Caleb’s pal – where you find one, you will usually find the other. She also loves to spend time with Chris. In fact when he was teasing her saying he and Hannah should just spend her birthday raking leaves and celebrate her birthday next year, she willingly agreed. Anything to spend time with her dad! We love her!
You guy have such a cute little family! Too bad you’re so far away. Happy Birthday Hannah!
Happy Birthday Hannah! Great Birthday choice…I love bowling too!
What a fun, fun birthday! Everything from bowling to Santa! Can’t get much better than that! What a great way to celebrate such a big birthday! I think 5 is such a fun age and they seem to grow up so much in that year! Happy Birthday Hannah!
Happy Birthday Hannah! Wow–5! How the time does fly.
We love bowling for birthdays!!! What a special day, I’m glad Hannah had such a good time!!
Happy Birthday Hannah! I remember when you were just a little tot in my nursery class, and that is how I shall always remember you, but it is fun to see you grow!
