Happy Birthday, Emma!

Yesterday Emma officially turned 9 years old. I say ‘officially’ because I feel we’ve been in the count down for it forever . . . before October even hit, actually. Then we celebrated with cake/ice cream and presents Sunday night so Chris could be here with us then had Emma’s chosen birthday meal last night. So, it was a two day birthday party.

Sunday was a busy day with it being the Primary Program [I never got a post written about that – it was good but I was sad many kids just didn’t come. The ones that were there did a GREAT job and Caleb felt he needed to be a soloist for all the songs, which was SO funny! Emma and Caleb both gave full-fledged talks (as did Chris and I to wrap it up). The kids did a great job.] It was a good day at church after that for Emma as in primary we had a ‘party’ with fun cookies to go with our theme and we sang to Emma giving her an official ‘Happy Birthday from Primary’ pencil. To some people that may not mean very much, but to Emma that was a great gift.

Emma’s chosen birthday meal this year: pepperoni pizza, salad with just cheese and croutons, and soda. Then we had a chocolate cake with vanilla frosting topped off with sprinkles. I love it when my kids aren’t too demanding and the simplest things are what makes them happy. I didn’t have to stress about making a castle cake like in years past. Low Stress = Happy Mom

I told Emma she could have the day off of school on her birthday and she could do whatever she wanted while the rest of us did school. So, what did she choose? To read!!! How much better could you get?! She received a number of books for her birthday and chose one to read all day, finishing it off just as she was going to bed.

We gave Emma tickets to see The Lion King on Broadway this Saturday. It will be fun to go on a ‘date’ with just our oldest child. She is really looking forward to it. Just seeing her mouth drop open when she opened the envelope and realized what it was . . . . I almost started crying (this may not mean a whole lot though, as I am way TOO emotional about everything anyway!)!

It’s amazing to think we have a 9 year old. Has it really been a year since she was getting baptized and just seemed too old even then? The years she has left at home just seem to be ticking away.

She is starting to look so grown. I feel old… And, I am quite jealous that this 9-year-old is seeing a show on Broadway–something I’ve never done! Happy Birthday to Emma; her gift is in the mail.

Fun Fun birthday! Happy Birthday to Emma!

Becca, I am on the same brain-wave with you! Yesterday I was thinking about how weird it is that Halloween was already here, and it just feels like time is in super warp fast speed!!! I need it to slow down! I can’t believe you’ve got a 9 year old, and I’ve got an 8 year old in two weeks!
