We arrived at gym camp around noon on Sunday. I was really excited to be back and to train without having any injuries.

Arriving with Dad
It was fun to travel with Dad and visit with Aunt Wendy and Uncle Dave the night before, as has become our ‘tradition.’

Since this was my third year at IGC, I felt a lot more comfortable coming to camp. I didn’t know if I would know anyone from the previous years, but I was okay with that.

It turns out, I did know 3 of the kids in my cabin from the first year – Tyler, Donny, & Jake.

At the beginning of camp, they had all the people from different countries come up and be represented. I was surprised there were so many UK kids. I was the only boy, but the girls were all part of a Scottish team that had come together.

UK Gymnasts with ‘Celebrities’
The theme of the week was “Atlantis,” an undersea / underwater idea. Each cabin had to put together a cabin cheer with that theme in mind.

Prepping for Cabin Cheer
On the spur of the moment, we came up with a cheer set to the song “Under the Sea” from ‘The Little Mermaid.’

“Cabin 1 1”
The first night we had screening to judge what training group we would be in. As warm-ups started, I knew it was going to be a fun time – we had some colourful characters.

Laughs during Warm-ups
During the screening, I was able to achieve the first group because I got a score of 25 out of 30. They measure your total by how you perform on 3 apparatus: pommel horse, high bar, and floor, giving you a score out of 10 for each.
Training was fun and I had a lot of opportunities to improve moves that I have had trouble on. I was also able to polish a lot of other moves that I felt confident in.

However, it all wasn’t just work. I was able to hang out with my cabin, especially after lunch time.

Playing Frisbee
We got to play 9-square, which is a type of ball game. We also enjoyed the scary-aerie, which consists of rock-climbing, tight-rope walking, and zip-lining.

In the evenings, we had social hour. I wasn’t a big fan.

Cabin-mates
I even snuck out of dance night and did karaoke with my friend, Devon, instead of having to dance.

Karaoke
I was really surprised with how many celebrities came that week for camp. It was more than I had seen the previous years.

I got to work with Brandon Wynn, Eddie Penev, Josh Dixon, and Chris Brooks.

I had a great time at camp. I’m already looking forward to next year!
