Yesterday was a fun Friday of giving for us. We finally took our blankets for Project Linus to their drop-off point. It was one of those anti-climatic events but it was nice to hand them over so they can be put to good use.
Then we went over to Wal-Mart to pick up a few things. It was such a hot day we decided to buy a cold water for the greeter on our way out. At first she thought we were telling her we had just bought the water so she wouldn’t have to look at our receipt so we tried to explain again to her that it was such a hot day that we wanted to buy her a water. She was really surprised and the kids got a kick out of it – of course that is after they asked a number of times after we checked out why we were giving it away to someone else.
On the way home, we stopped by the movie theater and bought a single ticket for Chris to use today to see “The Bourne Ultimatum”. He has been waiting for this movie to come out and had such a hard, long week at work, I thought it was the least we could do to let him go do something fun by himself today. He was REALLY surprised and excited when he opened the card at dinner time. That, in and of itself, made it worth it!
So, after doing 3 nice things for others, I told the kids I thought we deserved something nice for ourselves 🙂 This brought cheers from the back of the van and we drove over to Wendy’s to get Frosty’s. All was quiet on the way home as they eagerly dove in to their ice cream treats! Ahh, it was a ‘good mom moment.’
Fun day! I’m sure you went to bed smiling!
Becca, this is just wonderful! I love the things that you did for others! I really need to take this up with my kids, I think the thinking of others things would really help get rid of some of the “Me,me, me” stuff!
Such great ideas! I would love to start this as well! Did Chris like the Bourne Ultimatum? Mike and I saw it on Friday and it was everything an action movie is supposed to be! Very good! I saw the 4th book in the “Bourne” series at Walmart, the Bourne Betrayal Hmmmm…..Made me wonder if they make a 4th movie?
good for you becca!! no better way to teach your kids about service and RAK than to actively do it. i love that you focused your efforts into one day…. totally inspiring. i’ve gotta get my act together. thanks for sharing!
