We had our Branch Fall Festival last night. The kids were very excited to officially sport their costumes for the first time this Halloween.
Since I’m not Activity Chairperson anymore I thought it would actually be fun to dress up and participate since I didn’t have to be running around like a chicken with its head cut off making sure everything was in order. It took some twisting of Chris’s arm to dress up but he finally made me a compromise – he dressed up but not in the costume I had for him (to match mine as a hippie). Instead he made his own . . .
We all had a great time. Emma got a ton of comments on her astronaut costume which was made out of household items – like a silverware drawer organizer, bucket, tubing, reflectors, etc. She was embarrassed at the time from all the attention but was giddy about it afterwards. I really have to give her credit for her own costume. She decided this year to start at the beginning of the alphabet and think of something to start with each letter for that corresponding year [this has to be some defect she inherited from me :)]. So, an astronaut was for ‘A’ and we found instructions to make this at FamilyFun.com. We literally put it all together yesterday morning – it took more than the hour the directions said it would, but compared to the sewing project Caleb’s was, this was a piece of cake.
Then tonight for our Family Home Evening we carved our annual Halloween Pumpkins. Cami was really excited to get into the fun by decorating hers with markers.
The other kids weren’t too excited about the ‘gutting’ process but they loved the results.
I love Emma’s astronaut costume. So cool. And nice to not have to spend money for a cool costume when everything is already at home! And I also like what Chris did. That is totally something Rob would do. He will never dress up. Glad you could enjoy the party and dress like a hippie. I want to see your costume!
Wow! I am so impressed by the costumes! I just bought my kids’ costumes from Old Navy. Maybe I’ll have to step it up next year. =)
Awesome costumes! The astronaut one is so creative! I love Family Fun!
wow – so impressed with all the costumes!!! your pumpkin carving pics are great… making me wish i’d remembered to take some in action shots of the process!!!
These are all so great! Great job on Caleb’s too! Wow! It always takes me so much longer than I think it will, when I make things – I made costumes 3 or 4 years ago and thought, I’d just breeze through them….Ha! It took so long! But since that year, someone has always worn the candy corn costume I made – and I’ll keep having someone wear it, by golly, that was a lot of work!
