We attended a homeschool workshop last week centered around chocolate making, specifically Easter egg chocolates. The kids had a great time learning how to temper chocolate and filling the molds.

The hardest part was waiting for the chocolate to set. When it was finally set, the kids were able to pop their chocolates out of the molds and ‘glue’ them together using more melted chocolate.

It seemed they had all mastered the smaller molds so they moved on to the large chocolate molds, which is how you mostly see Easter chocolates here.

Obviously, these larger molds take some practice in how to spread the chocolate around and how much to put in the mold. If you are able to pop it out of the mold, you can ‘glue’ them together with more chocolate as well.

No matter how they look when they are done, they always taste great.

The kids really enjoyed this activity so when I saw some small Easter-themed molds at the store, I brought them home and we had a go by ourselves. The molds were smaller so the chocolate set faster and we had better luck as we didn’t have to ‘glue’ the chocolates together . . . and we could decorate them with gel frosting!

Of course, we did do our normal Easter egg dying. Again, no white eggs to be found, so we used the brown eggs. I think they come out with the richest colors anyway.
