It’s no secret that we have independent children. The most strong-willed at this point is Cami. There are many times when we ask Cami to do something that she flat-out refuses! How do they learn these things?! Our biggest battles occur when we ask her to eat her dinner or to use the bathroom.
In the last few weeks, we stumbled on a solution for both of these issues – competition!! If there’s a race to use the bathroom before bedtime, she HAS to be first! If it’s a race to see who can put a forkful of food in their mouth first, she gets it in before we even say ‘go.’ Thankfully the other kids understand this method of getting Cami to do what we need her to and will ‘race’ to the bathroom in slow motion or start the ‘food eating competition’ when they notice Cami not eating.
So for now, we are all about ‘loving competition’ at home! Hooray for flexible parenting, right?!
