We had the opportunity this year to gather some gifts for a family in our church branch who otherwise would not have had a Christmas. With the way things turned out I had to go to the store to purchase some items with the money that was donated. That meant taking the kids with me. Before we left I explained to them what we were doing and that those things we got might be the only things this family would get for Christmas. I should have chosen my words a little more carefully. Caleb was quiet for a minute, looking quite thoughtful, then he very quietly and sincerely said, “Don’t they believe in Santa?” Such sweet innocence that I love! So, I told him of course Santa would bring them a gift but that would be it if we didn’t go get them a few more things.
The kids were excited to pick things out at the store. The toaster selection is never more exciting when you are trying to pick out the perfect one for someone! I loved their excitement and it made our hearts be in the right place for this time of giving. We were all grateful for the opportunity to help with this service.
Oh I love that innocence! And I’m glad to hear there are a few more beleivers out there! When Santa walked into our ward Christmas party this year, Ethan turned to Gordon with sparkles in his eyes and said, “I knew he was real!” He was so happy. I’m sad it will end someday!
good for you guys!! i remember doing this as a kid and loving every minute of it….. feels so good to do something for someone else!
So cute! That is great that the ward does that. I was inspired today to go to walmart and get a name off the tree and they were all gone! I will have to look harder!
