Caleb recently started Tiger Cub Scouts with the local Cub Scout troop of 40+ boys. It has been an interesting experience for all of us – Caleb to spend time with other boys, Becca to learn the boy scout system after her few years in Girl Scouts with Emma, and me to be involved in scouting again after so many years away.

I use the word “involved” because I am now working as the official assistant Tiger Cub Den Leader. When Caleb signed up this year the local pack leader found out that I am an Eagle Scout and has not ceased to show his admiration for that title. We discovered that out of the 40+ boys, parents, and countless leaders, not one is an Eagle Scout, or has ever met an Eagle Scout. He claims that I am the only one he has ever met to actually go through the Boy Scout program and achieve Eagle – meaning that I should impart as much of my scouting wisdom on the pack as I possibly can. Needless to say, there is not much wisdom left to impart. In fact, in working with the Tigers I constantly have to read through the books just to remember some of the most basic scouting principles. It has been a wonderful experience and one I will continue to enjoy.
