I have a good friend, Ally Condie, who has become a published author since the last time I saw her 3 years ago. Our husbands both were attending grad. school at Cornell and we both attended Cornell’s student branch. Such great memories of those times!

Ally’s fourth book, Freshman for President, will actually be out this Friday, June 13th! I was lucky enough to receive an advance copy of her book and read it while I was on my long flight home from Europe. The time just flew by! I may be a 31 year old mother of four but I felt I could truly relate to this young adult book about a 15 year old who decides to run for President of the United States. Milo J. Wright didn’t feel like anyone important but noticed a need for change so he shot for the top and made a difference. In doing so, he found out what defined him as a person as well as the deep-rooted relationships with friends and family he had in his life. If you have an ‘impossible’ dream this book will motivate you to shoot for it, if it is what you truly desire. It reminds me of that quote that was written in my senior yearbook a number of times, “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars” – Les Brown.
I noticed on Ally’s website that they are giving away a copy of this book, so get over there and sign yourself up! It’s a great read . . . one I’m anxious to have Emma read soon.
