This year we are experiencing the great juggling act of two kids in baseball/t-ball, different teams, different fields, same time, one parent. Hopefully there aren’t too many games that coincide but tonight was the first and thankfully it worked out okay since Hannah’s t-ball games are one hour no matter what and Caleb’s are longer.
Both Hannah and Caleb have shown a lot of excitement getting to play this season. They don’t show a lot of competitiveness (at least during the games or practices) but just watching their faces and body language you know it is just sheer joy that they get to participate.
I had forgotten how fun a t-ball game is to watch. The kids travel in groups wherever the ball goes, no matter whose team is at bat. One time a little boy from Hannah’s team hit the ball off the tee and then picked it up and looked around to see who to throw it to. It was the best play of the game for the parents – these kids are so cute!! I love this picture of Hannah leaping into first base and all the other kids are in the middle of the field looking for the ball. I think it was safe to assume she was “safe.”

There was a little boy on the opposite team who Hannah has gotten to be friends with during Caleb’s baseball practices, as his brother is on that team as well. It was so funny to see the little boy recognize Hannah, look at her in the face, and when she didn’t acknowledge who he was, he took his hat off and said, “Hannah, it’s me!”

Caleb is playing second base for his team and doing a good job, although how he and Chris practice at home is not how the coach has Caleb do things so Caleb is a little confused. The steps away from the base are different – Chris said 2, the coach said 5. I told Caleb to listen to his coach because they all do things differently. But now Caleb is scared to move from that spot and won’t run over to 2nd base to tag the bag because he can’t move from ‘that spot.’ Of course, how can he get to the bag when the coach is between it and Caleb?

I guess it’s a growing experience for everyone . . even the parents. At least the kids are having fun!
