Cami has been very tough on her mouth. I’m contemplating getting her a mouth-guard – she would never wear it though!
A couple weeks ago, we were enjoying our weekly library visit. I was being pulled 3 different directions to assist the three older kids in finding ‘just the right’ books. Emma had a desire to find books about Sitting Bull so she and I were sifting through the library’s collection. Cami ran up behind us, tripped over her feet, and fell headfirst into the bottom ledge of the metal bookshelf.
I hoped Cami had only bit her tongue again – another scar there wouldn’t be too bad, right? After sopping up all the blood, we found she had split part of her lip and her upper gum was actually what had hit the ledge. I didn’t dare touch her teeth in case they were knocked loose. I gathered up some pretty upset children, as they weren’t ready to leave, and we headed straight to the dentist office.
I felt so badly Cami’s first dentist appointment HAD to be an emergency visit. The dentist was great with her and didn’t want to do too much either so he didn’t hurt the injury more. After another visit to him later in the week and another to the pediatrician, we are waiting to see if there is nerve damage or if she ends up losing the tooth. Thankfully it’s just a baby tooth.
The gum has healed nicely over the last couple weeks but we have noticed the gum over that one tooth is a lot higher than on her other front tooth. Who knows if that will be permanent. At least her lip has healed nicely.
