Every little milestone Cami makes I feel like we say goodbye to the stage before it forever. Maybe this is how it is with your last child (yes, we believe she may be our last). It’s a sad feeling mixed with the excitement for the new stage she is entering. Although, today it wasn’t very exciting.
I had just sat down to read a little bit of a book after finishing up school with the 3 older kids. Not 2 minutes afterwards I heard Cami start to stir as she woke up from her nap. I put my book down, ran to the basement to get the laundry out of the dryer to bring upstairs with me. I put the clothes basket in my room and started to walk to Cami’s door to get her out of her crib. I heard her saying, “Mommy, mommy, mommy . . . ” but it sounded closer and closer to the door each time. When I opened the door, Cami was standing directly in front of me. I think I stood there for a full 30 seconds trying to figure out what she was doing there – I didn’t hear her fall out of her crib or cry from falling. Such an odd occurrance! Just then Chris called to check in and I told him what happened. He reminded me that we still had one notch to lower the crib . . . so guess what I spent my next 10 minutes doing?!
Mysteries just never cease with children . . especially when they figure things out accidentally or by observation!
Ah! I live in fear of Chandler learning to climb out of the crib! I’m sure it’s coming soon though, ours doesn’t lower any more!
Sorry it happened so soon for you! Jared was climbing out just a few months after he turned a year. It didn’t matter how low the mattress was, he could do it. So we had to move him out of the crib! I hope Cami stays for a bit longer for you!
Oh so sad. I hate when that happens. Looks like Jude will be the one in the crib the longest for us and I hope he is a ways off from that stunt! Cami sure is a cutie!
I hope lowering the crib helps! I have been know to keep some of my kids in their cribs until 3! I don’t like losing that freedom of knowing they will stay put if you put them in their bed.
I feel for you, Becca. I worry Asher’s going to figure that out soon. I’m noticing that it’s amazing the things younger kids can pick up from their older siblings that they probably wouldn’t have learned for years otherwise!
