We are still getting used to the British way of doing things. One of the hardest has been the way the British gymnastics does their ‘seasons’. There is no district, state, and then regional competitions. From what we’ve experienced these last 18 months is that Caleb averages two unrelated competitions a year and he’s done. Perhaps this is because he isn’t British and doesn’t qualify for certain competitions, but we are still clueless.
Caleb was scouted out for the British Junior National Squad, but when they found out he wasn’t British and had only been here a year, they referred to the handbook. We obviously need to be here longer and put down some British roots. So, they are keeping their eye on him.
For now, we are happy that Caleb has finished his ‘season’ and continues to work hard in the gym. He enjoys the practices and being with the boys, but does not enjoy the stress of competitions. At his last meet, I was able to go and see how far he’s come in the last year. This was truly a treat as we are not allowed in the gym to watch practices.

Parallel Bars
We have had to deal with some fear issues this year, especially in the high bar. But, now it is one of his favorite events, along with the rings.

Rings Dismount
What has also been rewarding is seeing how much his relationship with his coach has been strengthened this year.

Evgeni & Caleb
I think they’ve found a balance between the push and pull of a coach and a gymnast.

Sharing a Moment
We are looking forward to this summer when Caleb and I get to accompany his team to a gymnastics training camp in Bulgaria.
