Another Day, Another Year

I’m a little slow at posting about this, maybe I’m in denial. I now can’t say I’m the big 3-0 but I’ve officially entered the ’30-stage’ as a 31 year old. Turning 25 wasn’t that hard for me but turning 26 seemed harder – maybe it’s just all in the thought process.

My birthday was Thursday, which is normally the last day of February. My mom made me feel better by saying that since this year had an extra ‘last day’ of February, I really had a two-day birthday. I’m all for that! But, really, both days were just like any other day. I got to be a homeschooling mom both days but decided that, just like my kids, I shouldn’t have to do school on my birthday. So, I gave them each a pile of things they could do on their own and tried to relax. That didn’t work as planned but at least I got out of 3 hours straight of sitting down doing math with 3 different children.

I did do a few other things for myself – on an outing to the grocery store I picked up some of my favorite jelly beans, now that all the Easter goodies are out. We got two bags – we’re already close to needing a refill!! I love these!

Also, something I’ve never done before – I noticed one of neighbors was throwing away some dining room chairs. We went down and inspected before the garbage men came and decided they were pretty nice still, at least for a family with kids. So, we asked permission (we felt a little weird just taking them) and lugged all 5 of them home (I was a little disappointed there weren’t 6 but beggars can’t be choosers). I washed the seat covers and now we have some nice chairs to enjoy around the table rather than having the kids slide around on the benches all during dinner.

When Chris came home from work we had baked potato soup, which I had put in the crockpot earlier in the day and then some cake. I have to admit Chris tried to make the cake – he baked it while I was gone on Tuesday night and then he was going to frost it when he got home Thursday. Frosting just wasn’t sounding good to me so when we took our trip to the store we picked up some strawberry jello, cool whip, and strawberries to make a poke cake. So, I finished making that before we ate dinner. It was great and really hit the spot!

The kids gave me some fun chocolate candy molds – I think that was a little hint of something they would like me to get into doing. Then Chris surprised me with my ‘lost-in-transit Valentine’s/Birthday gift’ – a Nikon SLR Digital Camera. (Really – whoever made off with this when it was ‘lost in transit’ made off with a great find – I hope they are enjoying it!) I’m looking forward to taking great pictures for digital scrapbooking . . . and to just enjoy!

Now that I’m in the ’30-realm’ I feel more mature and wiser. We’ll see what this year brings!
