When we had taken our ‘day out’ to the Skocjan Caves, we realized that we were actually pretty close to the Italian border . . . like 20 minutes close! We jumped at the chance to ‘have lunch in Italy’!

Lunch in Italy
We drove to Trieste, which is a seaport town in northeastern Italy, lying towards the end of the Italian strip between the Adriatic Sea and Slovenia.

We were able to just wander around, with some help from the tourism office and find a good restaurant before everything closed at 3:00 p.m. for their “riposo.”

After eating we had time to just wander around, using the tourist map, to see what we could see.

There were a number of Roman ruins around . . . a theatre and market area.

New ‘Statues’ in the Old Ruins

It was very interesting to see how the Italians had tried to save some of the old, at the same time they were building up the new.

The one thing we did look up on TripAdvisor was a great gelato place. You can’t go to Italy without having gelato!

We actually visited it more than once . . . .

. . . .or twice in the few hours we were in the area!

It was a great day to have an afternoon in Italy!
