Last week we were VERY excited to host my childhood friend, Shelly, and her two little girls. Shelly’s husband, Matt, had a busy work week so she took the opportunity to leave D.C. on a road trip . . . to see us! As fate would have it, work was incredibly crazy for Chris as well so Shelly and I kept each other company.
The weather was wet and rainy during their visit so we kept indoors. The kids stayed busy playing and breaking in the new rainy day activities (play-doh and window markers). Of course, there were many breaks to read books.

We also took the opportunity to make and decorate sugar cookies.

I noticed something about my own children during that activity – Cami liked her cookies frosted with solid colors; no mixing and NO sprinkles.

Caleb (and my other girls), on the other hand, couldn’t load on enough sprinkles.

This has to be representative of something in life, but I haven’t figured it out yet.
During our final hours together, the kids broke out some balloons – they were a hit! It’s a wonder we, as parents, don’t break these out more often. Their colors and ability to remain suspended in air make it impossible to be unhappy (unless yours is stolen by another, but . . such is life).

It was so great to stay up talking with Shelly after the kids were in bed – sharing experiences, thoughts, and feelings. So much has happened in both of our lives since last time we were together that it was just a great time!

Shelly, thank you for coming to see us and letting us meet your two sweet girls! It was so much fun!
