Chris had this last weekend on his calendar for ages so we wouldn’t miss it. What is “it”? The Ithaca Used Book Sale! It is always worth the trip upstate. We even planned an extra day to enjoy our old Cornell stomping grounds, but our plans changed significantly after being on the road for a couple hours.
Half of our weekend was spent here:

When we stopped for gas at our half-way point, our car just died. We finally got it started and thought we’d chance it – we had said a prayer so nothing could go too terribly wrong, right?! We pulled out and heard a horrible noise, saw a closed auto repair shop, parked, and our car started smoking. We were definitely protected as we weren’t in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night, but it definitely wasn’t what we had planned.
Our car was fixed the next day, after being pulled in a couple more times (one thing after another seemed to go wrong). Having to go through auto trouble, we were glad we were right by this shop – they were so nice, helpful, and professional with a clean shop!
Pulling into Ithaca a day late, we met up with our dear friend, Cathy, who used to be our neighbor and is now our ‘adopted grandmother.’ She just bought a new home and gave us a grand tour. We were so happy to spend some time with her.

Saturday was our big day at the book sale. We arrived shortly after they opened and re-emerged 3 hours later (yes, you read that right – THREE hours!) with 2 full boxes worth of books. At an average price of $1.40 a book, you can’t lose!

We then loaded back up in our trusty van, said goodbye to beautiful Ithaca, and began our drive home (with no more mishaps).
