By default, with the boys gone, we had a girls’ weekend. A lot of time was spent working on quilts, but we did venture out of the house on Saturday to see “Shorts” at the movie theater. I was outvoted as I had wanted to see “Ponyo” but we had a great time at the movie and Cami was really into as well.

On Labor Day, we did venture out a little more from home. After a short stop to pick up quilting supplies at the fabric store, we continued on into New York State to attend their Renaissance Faire. The kids had gotten free tickets from the library so it was a perfect opportunity.

I knew from the get-go this was going to be something Emma would really be ‘into’ and was I ever right! She got a map with a program and planned our whole day there. I had to put my foot down to take a break for lunch.

We tried our luck on the sword in the stone:

Saw the falconry:

Watched the acrobat/stilt walker (my favorite of the day):

Got locked up in the stocks:

And saw some jousting:

By the end of day, I thought it would be really fun to take the girls on a paddle boat – something we’d never done. So, I made the executive decision to do that. Emma was a little distraught because Maid Marion and Robin Hood were supposed to be wed shortly and she wanted a front row seat. I assured her we’d be back in time. As we were waiting to board our little boat, I looked around and noticed Emma wasn’t with us. When I finally found her, she was sitting in the wedding area awaiting the wedding festivities. Boy, you give this girl a foot and she takes a mile! So, she unhappily came on the paddle boats with us, being careful to not show us she actually was enjoying herself.

As soon as we got off the boats, she sprinted over to the wedding area again. But, don’t worry, we didn’t miss a thing!

On our way out we were able to meet Robin Hood and all his band.

Hannah had to get everyone’s autograph. Really, how often do you meet them in your neck of the woods?!

It was a really great day with my girls building more memories. I love it!
