Withdrawals

Last weekend we had some house-guests.  This doesn’t happen very often so we tried to get our ‘fill’ as much as possible and now the kids – okay, me too – are going through withdrawals.  It’s so hard to see family leave.  It made me wish we were closer to family but then again, I think we appreciate their visits even more since we don’t see them very often.

My dad arrived first thing Sunday morning fresh from his high school reunion.  He was excited that we were having such a late breakfast so he could enjoy our monkey bread with us.

Before Conference started, the kids tried to wear Grandpop out with flips, rides, and many books.  We knew we only had him for less than 24 hours so they were trying to maximize their time.

In the late afternoon, our second wave of guests pulled in from a long trek from Kentucky.  My sister, Helen, drove here by herself with her 3 boys.  Yes, she is often referred to as ‘Superwoman.’  She makes everything look easy – even road trips with 3 active boys.  We were so thrilled that she took advantage of the boys’ school break to drive out for a few days.

Sunday night all the cousins participated in a shortened ‘High School Musical’ performance for all of us – this time free of charge!

Grandpop left Monday morning to drive back to PA for his flight back home.  The cousins were all sad to see him go.

The couple days we had remaining with Helen and her boys were relaxed and filled with plenty of play time for the cousins.  We thought we would go do something fun on Monday but none of the kids could agree and just wanted to play anyway.  So, we hung out and let them have lots of playing time at the park and at home.  The boys, of course, never let the football out of their sight the whole time.

Tuesday, we took the kids to “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.”  They all really liked it.  Then we had more playing at the park before we were off to swimming and gymnastics practices.  The kids were anxious to ‘show off’ for a short time for their cousins.  It was fun to have someone there cheering them on – made us miss those opportunities.

Just for kicks – here are my cute nephews:

Then, sadly, Wednesday arrived and Helen and the boys loaded up again.  I shed a few tears as they turned off our street and Caleb moped around the entire day not knowing what to do with himself with all of us girls again.  We are slowly coming out of our slump, but continuing to relive those great family times!
