The Day I Forgot My Camera

I set my camera out this morning – even changed the batteries.  Then in the hustle and bustle of getting everyone out the door, I forgot it. Of course I didn’t remember it until I wanted to whip it out to take a picture.

The girls and I took Caleb to get his blood work done. This was requested from the doctor at his birthday appointment in February. Caleb is TERRIFIED of needles of any kind, which seems to be a male trait on the Nevin side. At that appointment Caleb also had to get a new booster shot which didn’t go over well, as he was emotionally unprepared. Having said that, we decided to wait a little while for Caleb to face a needle again. About a month ago, I had Caleb sit down and pick a day on the calendar to go so that it was his decision, not mine. Today was the day he chose and we all heard the count-down. The whole way to the lab Caleb tried to convince me we could go another day, but I wasn’t budging, it was on the calendar! To make a long story short, I wanted to capture the moment of Caleb’s bravery being displayed as the technician began to prep his arm for taking some blood. His eyes were red rimmed with tears and his body was shaking in nervousness but he had a brave face. Then he was promptly rewarded with a Garfield bandaid and a sticker that said “Behind this sticker is one great kid.” Very true!

Then after running some errands, we took the short trip out to our church building to drop off the food for our Easter breakfast tomorrow. I noticed some interesting droppings just outside the door, but wasn’t too concerned except to tell the kids not to step in it. On our way out as I got out of the car to close the parking lot gate, I heard Emma yell from the car that there was a wild turkey. Sure enough – a wild turkey strutting his stuff right towards the car at a fairly quick pace. I quickly locked the gate. By this time the turkey was 2 feet away from the car door – I held my breath, skirted past him, and shut my door. He just stood there looking at us through the windows. Oh, how I wished for my camera!

When we got home, there the camera sat on the counter – with fresh batteries in it!
