Mandatory Haircut

I have heard this happen to many friends, but I always thought in the back of my mind, “I’m so glad we’ll never have this happen with our kids!”  Ah, I wish I could have been right.

We had some friends over this morning so I could help my friend work on some preparations for an upcoming Primary activity.  We’ve done that before – while we work in the office on the computer, etc., the kids just run around and play.  Our biggest worry was to make sure the gate was latched at the top of the stairs so her baby wouldn’t fall down the stairs.

Just as we were packing up and preparing for them to leave, Hannah comes running up yelling, “____ just cut Cami’s hair!”  Now, if any of you have seen Cami lately you know her hair can be very pretty.  I say ‘can be’ because it looks so nice when it is done but when we don’t do it, it just hangs there or gets lots of static.  So, I run downstairs and sure enough HAIR all over the family room!  I’m searching all over for the scissors and can’t find them.  It seems as soon as the deed was done, Hannah had walked in and was smart enough to put the scissors away herself.  I’m sure that was a way to cover herself as she was the one who left them on the floor in the first place when opening up a snack pack of crackers.

______ blames his 2 year old brother while the little brother and Cami tell us it was really _____.  Such trauma and embarassment on both ends.  But, we all took deep breaths and realized it was only hair; it will grow back.  It could have been much worse with scissors laying around on the floor!

So, this afternoon Cami was excited to get a ‘real haircut’.  I cut it up to her shoulders and left the short chunky parts alone – we’ll just pull them back until they grow out.  The positive side – Cami has already told me a number of times, “I love my new hair cut!”  So, maybe it really was time for a new look!
