We spent Thanksgiving by ourselves this year, as in ‘with no family,’ but we really weren’t by ourselves as we had a house full of friends who were also without families for the holiday. We only had to worry about making some of the main staples, such as the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and green bean casserole, but everything else was contributed by our wonderful company. It made for such a low-key preparation on our part that we put our extra time into making cute placecards and cutting out leaves for our ‘Gratitude Tree’.

Of course, not to forget that we now have a tween who loves to be there but not really be involved as she laid on the couch watching everything go on around her (listening to an audio book, not music, I must add).

We were so hungry by the time we were ready to eat that I didn’t even pause to get a picture of the ‘spread’, which I feel badly about because we really did have it all! After dinner we had some down time and some of the ‘girls’ broke out their knitting projects.

We were still too full to enjoy dessert fully, so we broke out some games. Cranium just seemed too challenging for us after a big meal but we put forth our best effort, which wasn’t too successful.

Dessert was just as wonderful as dinner – and again no pictures! We had a great day and were sad to see all our friends leave at 10 p.m. The day just flew by but we were so grateful for the time we had to celebrate and count our blessings.
