Yes, ‘EXCITED’ is the word to describe Caleb as he left the gym tonight.
He was actually a ‘loner’ at his practice tonight because the other 2 boys on the team were at separate cub scouting events. This usually goes one of two ways – Caleb refuses to enter the gym without his teammates OR Caleb is excited to have a private workout with his coach. Today we were lucky enough to see the latter, although he wouldn’t go in until his coach came out in the lobby looking for him. Whatever works!
Two and a half hours later when I went to the gym to pick Caleb up, he was on the trampoline with his coach. When they both saw me come in, they began pantomiming to watch. I happily obliged. Caleb then proceeded to show me his new trick – a back tuck – cleanly performed and well ‘stuck’ (landing without taking a step). They worked their way off the trampoline and began doing back tucks on the floor. I was beginning to get giddy myself watching him and couldn’t help letting loose some girlish giggles as I watched my son enjoying a new trick he had mastered (with some that landed him flat on his face). At that moment I didn’t care if the others in the lobby were eyeing me strangely.
When Caleb was done and had made his rounds of ‘secret handshakes’ to the other coaches in the gym, he came bounding out of the gym with a glow around his face that can only be described as pure excitement. He couldn’t speak fast enough to let the words come out. You can imagine we heard all about his entire practice for the rest of the night and Chris had to be sent an e-mail before Caleb would climb into bed.
We love our ‘little’ gymnast!
