On the way to church on Sunday Emma and I were discussing the current woes of the economy and how that affected our family. At the end of the conversation I said, “So we continue to be patient and wait, which is what we are really good at doing, right?†Emma sarcastically said, “We should be by now!†I realized that maybe I haven’t done a good job in displaying patience for my kids, amid the sarcasm.
This was brought home a little more yesterday morning when I was in the bathroom, door shut, taking a shower. I had gotten the kids their breakfast and stole away while they were safely occupied. I heard the door open . . .
Caleb – Mom, I want another omelet.
Mom – Caleb, I’m in the shower. I can come help you make another omelet when I get out. Please shut the door.
Caleb (in his whiniest voice) – But, Mom, I want an omelet now!
I take a deep breath and count to 10 as Caleb walks away leaving the bathroom door open. Then in a few more minutes . . .
Cami – Mommy, can I have an omelet?
Mom – I can make you one when I’m all done in the shower. I’m almost done.
Cami (in her still sweet voice) – Okay.
Mom – Cami, will you please close the door so I can get out of the shower?
Cami – Okay.
How can I hold on to that sweet, patient, innocence? Is it any coincidence we are supposed to become as a little child?
Then I found this definition of patience, which I absolutely loved. Reading it made me want to try my hardest to be a more patient person no matter what my day threw my way.

Who wouldn’t love to have a happy heart?! Just the imagery alone makes me feel uplifted.
