We made our annual early morning trek out to see the Hot Air Balloon Festival on Saturday. The kids were actually excited this year to get up at 4:30 a.m. and we were out the door in no time.

When we pulled into the parking area the dew was still on the ground and the sun was still rising. Those sites were just bonuses for the great morning we had.

There were over 100 balloons this year – every year we have gone, it just keeps getting bigger and bigger. We enjoyed watching them roll out the balloons and getting them set up to take off.

But the most amazing site is watching them all take off within minutes of each other to fill the sky with balloons. Not only were there the normal tear-drop shape, but many other specialty balloons – the highlight this year was the Belgium Darth Vader.

We stayed just a little while longer to walk around at the festival’s booths. We found some cool finds and picked up a lot of free candy. Cami loved the balloon she got from the USPS booth – the first one surprised her by floating away so they were nice enough to let us have a replacement. Even though the second balloon was tied to her wrist, she was terrified to let go in case it was going to float away like the other one.

It was a great morning. I love having things we look forward doing every year as a family! On a sad note, one of the things I was looking forward to the most – kettle corn – was not open while we were there. I was so bummed! I love festival kettle corn!
