Weekend Getaway, Day 3

Saturday we got going right away so we could get checked out of our hotel and meet Cathy for breakfast. When we were at Cornell, Cathy was our neighbor and quickly became a part of our family. She is an ‘adopted-grandmother’ to the kids and we all love her. We had a great breakfast with her as we caught up on each other’s lives.

Then we all went over to the Ithaca Book Sale. We could have spent all day in there – it was pure heaven! We went on the first day so the prices were at their highest, as they decrease each day of the booksale until all the books you can fit into a plastic grocery bag are $1.00. But, the day we went children’s paperback books were all $1 and that’s mainly what we went for. We wanted to upgrade to more classics and older children’s books. Of course, Chris and I couldn’t leave without picking up a few books for ourselves. We brought home 3 large bags worth of books (I believe 85 or so books) for $110. Most of them were in perfect condition so we feel we made out very well. The kids are excited to have new books to read and we’re excited to find bookshelf space for them.

We spent the rest of the afternoon with Cathy. We tried to hike Taughannock Falls, but Emma was complaining her ear hurt so we turned back half way. We drove to the look-out point to see the falls from above so we didn’t miss out on seeing them.

After a picnic at the park we had to head back home. We were sad to say goodbye to Cathy but so grateful we had the time we did to spend with her.

Our drive home seemed longer than the drive out there as Emma was obviously in pain, even after a couple rounds of pain medicine we gave her. So, after dropping us off at home, Chris continued on to the emergency room with Emma. After a typical long wait in ER the doctor looked at Emma’s ear and confirmed it was infected but that it had actually burst during the time they were waiting. They medicated her anyway and sent her home only to have her wake up in the morning throwing up. Who knows if this is part of what she’s had this whole weekend or something she picked up from the ER. But, on a good note, she’s back to normal other than not hearing very well. Of course, that could just be an excuse 🙂
