I have loved reading sweet tributes to Pres. Hinckley on various blogs after his death Sunday night. [It was interesting to find out some blogs that I lurk on are by fellow members of the Church.] This is one of those moments in life that I feel I will remember exactly where I was when I learned the news. I was just getting ready to go to bed, checking my e-mail for the last time, when I saw a brief notice from someone on my Primary Listserve extending prayers to Pres. Hinckley’s family. I think I spoke outloud, even though no one was in the room with me, wondering what had happened. I quickly tried to google any breaking news about Pres. Hinckley then tried the Church’s website and Deseret News. After I couldn’t find anything, I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep until I knew what was going on. So, I did some more searches for news channels in Salt Lake City, UT. Finally I saw a breaking story that Pres. Hinckley had passed away. I was surprised but at that moment, not really sad. I just felt very peaceful. He was such a wonderful man who I have grown to love through his time as Prophet. He has done so many wonderful things and has always made me want to be a better person, to “stand a little taller.” One of his many quotes that I love is:
“Rise to the great potential within you. I do not ask that you reach beyond your capacity. I hope you will not nag yourselves with thoughts of failure. I hope you will not try to set goals far beyond your capacity to achieve. I hope you will simply do what you can do in the best way you know how. If you do so, you will witness miracles come to pass.”
This morning I came across a sweet video tribute to Pres. Hinckley which is worth your time to watch.
Thanks for sharing. I loved the slide show.
Thanks for sharing that quote from President Hinckley. That is so inspiring to me.
