Phew! We made it through our first Primary Activity as a presidency. I am glad it’s over but I’m happy with how it turned out. We have 19 active kids in Primary (not saying they all come on the same weeks) and we had just over 20 kids there as some siblings from nursery came.
The kids had fun decorating Christmas sugar cookies. I lost count of how many dozen I made. All I know is that I am so happy we don’t have a bigger primary – I would have been baking all week!

We also had the kids make some ornaments from Oriental Trading. We really wanted to focus on Christ being the reason we celebrate Christmas so I ordered these from Oriental Trading.

After putting one ornament together as a trial run, I realized it was much more involved than I thought it would be. So, I spent a couple nights gluing the fabric on all the little wooden people. So glad I did because even after that we pretty much needed one-on-one with each child as we were working on these. This is when I was so grateful most of the parents stayed because they were so helpful as we tried to do these ornaments. These glue dots were lifesavers leaving very little mess for us to clean up in the end!

To end the activity on a spiritual note we had a little nativity discussion. Our secretary and one of the counselors worked so hard on making these costumes for each of the kids – it was amazing! The kids all felt so important and wore them the entire activity!

Hannah was asked to be Mary and she took her role very seriously – I love how she is acting so prim and proper here!

As we were leaving, I was looking all over the hallway picking up little pieces of raffia that we had used as hay. The branch president walked out and I asked how he thought the activity turned out. He told me he overheard one of the 8 year old boys who is taking the missionary discussions say, “This was a great party. It’s the most fun I’ve ever had!” It made me so happy. Even though things weren’t perfect, we were able to touch at least one person . . . and that’s what it’s all about!

That is so neat! What a great idea. I think it is hard to do something fun for the kids and still have the focus be what it should. Good job.
Looks like it was a great success! Our ward made those same ornaments a few years ago. They’re so cute! And they used glue dots, too! Still holding 3 years later! Amazing little things! That’s what I had the kids use to glue all the buttons on our ornaments this year. Love that there’s no mess! Good job on your activity! What a special night you made for each of them!
Looks like fun!!! Those glue dots were lifesavers at my daycare too, great invention! I’m glad it went well, I’m sure you stressed over it all week 🙂 I also love that each child had a costume, no one was left out.
