Today was Emma’s 8th birthday. We’ve been hearing the countdown for about a month now so we were all happy it had finally arrived. Not wanting to wait an entire day to open presents, Emma seized the moment while we were all in one area of the house. That just happened to be when the rest of us were rolling out of bed.

Emma couldn’t have asked for better and more suited presents. She received many books, which she was excited to start reading. The most surprising gift was from Aunt Eliza who gave her a dress for Emma’s new American Girl doll, Samantha. You can see the surprise and excitment in Emma’s face as she opened the box.
Emma chose her birthday dinner – I have to tell you our kids must be easy to please. She chose fish sticks, mashed potatoes, and corn. Then for her cake – oreo ice cream cake. The kids all enjoyed their dinner immensely while Chris and I were trying to quickly get through our fish sticks so we could have the ice cream cake.
It’s been exactly one week since Emma’s birthday and last night exemplifies how she has been focused on reading her books. She received nine novel books for her birthday, presents we thought would keep her busy for some time. This morning when Becca woke up with Cami at 2:00 am she found Emma reading in bed. She eventually fell asleep again, but finished her ninth book this morning. Now we need to find some more books to keep her busy again.
That is SO funny that she was up reading so late and has finished all 9 books. I have such a love of reading and at least once a week that’s me too…still up at 2!!! Darby is right into reading books too but not at Emma’s rate yet!
